Destin Commons has a new tenant to add to its repertoire: The Grape. Opening just in time for the July 4th holiday, The Grape is a full-service wine bar offering a wide selection of wines and gourmet fare in a relaxed, casual setting. The Grape is also a wine retailer and has a small wine shop where patrons can purchase the wine that is served in the restaurant. The new location in Destin Commons is one of several franchises located throughout the southeast.

To help customers make their wine selections, The Grape has created a wine classification guide which sorts their wines into 1 of 10 numbered categories. Numbers 1 through 3 are white wines, which go from lightest (1) to full body (3). Numbers 4 through 6 are red wines and just like the numbers for white wine range from lighter (4) to full body (6). Category 7 is sweet and dessert wines, category 8 is champagnes and sparkling wines, and categories 9 and 10 are fancier, more expensive wines for special occasions.

The Grape allows patrons to sample any wine prior to purchase. They call it a “splash,” and the server will gladly bring a small taste if anybody is having difficulty deciding what to order. Wines on the menu can be ordered by the half glass, glass or bottle. A minimum of at least three half glasses must be ordered at one time. This makes for a great way to sample several different wines. Wines ordered by the glass contain a generous pour of the selection. The menu also lists the price of the wine from the on-site retail store if customers choose to purchase a bottle on their way out. Many of the wines offered at The Grape are unique and not readily available from other wine stores.

A variety of gourmet foods are offered at The Grape to complement the wine served. Patrons can choose from light fare, such as salads, soup, spreads, cheese, and a variety of other appetizers. Full entrees are even offered for those interested in larger portions. Desserts are available as well, ranging from pies and cheesecakes to chocolate fondue.

Besides the regular wine bar and light fare options, The Grape offers special events, such as wine tastings, wine dinners, and live music.

Visit The Grape in Destin Commons to sign up for the Destin location’s e-mail list in the store. Rumor has it that the first wine dinner will be held sometime in August, and tickets will available for sale at The Grape in Destin.
