It’s the Grill Butter That Gets Me

I’ll admit it – I love a good hot dog. Some people don’t like them and point out the various poultry parts, mystery meats and additives that they are made of, but all that doesn’t bother me. From the statistics though, I think I’m in the majority since, according to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, over 20 billion Hot Dogs are consumed each year. That’s about 70 dogs per person each year. The dogs at Dave’s Dogs are an example of why so many are eaten. These are a taste treat that is not to be missed.

Dave’s is a local establishment, starting with a couple of stand at the Silver Sands Factory Stores on US 98 East of Destin, and yes, there is a Dave. He’s expanded to the Destin Commons Shopping Center and soon will have a drive-thru location at the Wash-and-Joe Car Wash on 98. Both locations feature the same delicious treats. The hot dogs are prepared with the finest ingredients and with the great care. The bun is a work of art – it’s actually a small loaf of fresh bread and sliced down the middle. No sideways, machine processed stale bun with flour on the bottom that too often is what you find in the grocery store. The dog itself is all beef and grilled along with the bun on a special hot dog grill using “grill butter”. I have no idea what this “butter’ is but it enhances everything, especially the bun. It probably is very bad for you and may have been found to instantly give lab rats the whooping cough and ADHD (just kidding). This is just the start because you can get chili on the dog for a little extra – and there’s all kind of free fixin’s like sauerkraut, relish, onions, hot sauce, mustard and ketchup. Too many choices, I may just have to have another dog.

Dave’s takes a lot of pride in his dog and it shows in the price he’s asking. I’ll cost you around five bucks for a dog and a soda. But it’s hard to stop with one dog. Make sure that you get the grill guy to give you the full ode of the dog he’s preparing, it’s part of the enjoyment for sure. I understand that franchising is in the works – so look for a Dave’s Dogs near you in the not too distant future.
