Never an Empty Plate

NICEVILLE – If it weren’t so obviously Asian, the best description of the buffet at the New Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant in Niceville would be – smorgasbord. The Swedish term for a large variety of food and dishes is very apropos.
The diners are offered a large selection of chicken, pork, beef, seafood and vegetarian dishes along with the ubiquitous fried wontons, spring rolls and egg rolls. There are steamers of fried and white rice, as well as at least two different pots of soup – hot and sour, or egg drop typically.
At dinner more seafood and kid-friendly a la carte items like potato skins, pizza and taquitos are also included.
The dessert table, unlike the entrée sideboard, while full of different sweets, is obviously not filled with homemade treats. The cheesecakes and cakes tend to be still frozen and the cookies and other pastries can be slightly on the stale side most days.
All this however, is compensated by the rich selection of entrees on the lunch and dinner buffet.
The staff greets each customer as they enter the front door and are meticulous about removing empty plates and filling empty glasses. If an entrée pan is nearly empty, diners don’t have to wait long for it to be replaced with piping hot food.
If you don’t have time for the buffet, take out is available, and menu service is also offered.
