Yes, Bonefish Grill is a chain restaurant, and Destin is generally known for it’s “local” seafood restaurants. However, the selection of fresh seafood at Bonefish Grill will not disappoint.
The specialty offering is a variety of fresh fish cooked over a wood burning fire and topped off with your choice of four special seasonings: lemon butter sauce, lime tomato garlic sauce, warm mango salsa, or pan Asian style seasoning. While the fish selection will vary seasonally, you will usually find choices including Rainbow Trout, Salmon, Mahi Mahi, scallops and shrimp, Grouper, and Sea Bass. The cooking process over the wood fire gives the fish a delightful flakiness and light char grilled flavor.
If fish isn’t your thing, fear not – Bonefish Grill offers a number of other selections as well. Choose from soups such as corn chowder with lump crab (I can verify that this is excellent!), house or Caesar salads, pork chops, chicken, or even steaks. Each entrée includes one of the “awesome side items” which are garlic mashed potatoes, potatoes au gratin, angel hair pasta with marinara sauce, island rice, and a steamed vegetable medley.
For beverage choices, Bonefish offers a wine menu that covers all of the basics with several nice choices in each category. They recommend one of their white wines with the lighter fish selections, and you can also choose from reds including pinot noir, cabernet, merlot, and zinfandel. For martini lovers, there is an extensive list of choices including concoctions such as sour apple, lemon drop, Georgia peach, and chocolate.
Due to the restaurant’s popularity, a word to the wise: during the summer, go early and call ahead to reserve a seat. It will fill up quickly in the evenings, especially on weekends. In the bar area, a unique seating option is offered which would likely cut down on your wait: there are several community tables at which you can sit with other parties. If there’s an empty spot, you just have a seat next to anybody else who is there. So, if you’re feeling social one evening, try one of those out! Even if you have to wait for a seat, you won’t be disappointed by your meal.
